The Latest Happenings

July 15, 2009

It’s been a while since I posted here so I’ll try and catch you all up.

We finally got back to the U.K. after a few years and this time was probably the most fun we’ve had there. Our first day was a BBC 6 live radio show. After some very bad traffic we arrived at the station just in time to set up, play, do a quick interview and then bounce out to head down to Brighton to play a great club called the Engine Room. It’s sort of  a Gothic type place and it filled up with our first UK audience in a couple of years. They came ready and gave us back everything we gave them.

The next day we drove back up to London to play the Borderline, which is around the corner from Denmark street. If you like cruising musical instruments (ie guitars) then this is the place for you. I checked out a couple but i just couldn’t pull the trigger on anything. The club was almost packed and again the crowd brought a lot of energy with them. It made our job easy and  it was a great gig.

In Leicester we started off with some great Indian food and played a smaller place called the Musician. Really great people and great hospitality! Met a guy from Atlanta and drank some great beer.

Leeds was a blast as we met up with Paul and Mark again, the two BIGGEST BellRays fans in the U.K.! the Brudenell Social Club is a really cool community center sort of place with a really great sound. Had some great Iranian Pizza and Chinese food!

The last gig in the U.K. was in Newcastle Upon Tyne. Up in the north around Yorkshire. Our hotel was a cool old house and Lisa and I stayed in the Harewood room where we slept like logs! It was  a great show and it left us feeling really great about being able to play Britain again. Hopefully  we’ll get to go back very soon and do a wider UK tour.

Last night was Marburg, Germany. An old town where the Brothers Grimm spent a lot of time while they wrote many of there stories. We got to see their house after the show when we went to a small bar in the downtown area. It’s also the site of the tower that the story of Rapunzel is based. It’s on a mountain that overlooks the town. The show was crazy  and everybody there was really great to us all night.

Tonight it’s the Sonic Ballroom again in Cologne and we’re looking forward to a sold out show.

see ya and hopefully i’ll update this a little sooner next time!
