We Are Ready!

Back On the road fall 2022

The thing is we have been playing punk, rock and soul our whole career. We happened to find ourselves pretty quickly. Folks have made comparisons to us and say we sound like “Tina Turner fronting the MC5” or “The Stoogies with Aretha Franklin on the mic” or some other version of a soul singer being backed by a hard hitting rock band. None of these descriptions offend but none of them were ever what we called ourselves. We found our musical path by not trying to be any one thing and absorb what made our blood pump. We did a bad thing by today’s standard...we didn’t define our brand and thought that rock and roll was enough of a tag. We focused on the music and the show.

Fast forward 2016 after having to make “Covers” because we still couldn’t get a good read on the follow-up to BLACK LIGHTNING (what a story that is...remind me to tell you that). We had recorded two sessions with two sets of great musicians and just couldn’t latch on to what we believed was next. We had great takes and good songs but we just had a hard time believing it. Some songs remain lost in the vaults. One song that made it through the fire was MINE ALL MINE. This song may have been demo’d more than any other song we have ever done. We played it LIVE so many times (another “bad” branding idea) when it finally came out on a release somebody told me it don’t count as new. To each his own on that. Our purpose is to truly give ourselves over to the song so that it is realized as far as we could see fit. We played this song from 2011-2016 and the moment we demo’d it with Justin and Craig (who hadn’t played together since 2008) in early 2016 we knew the song was wearing it’s birthday suit. MINE ALL MINE was born on that day and we still feel like proud parents.

We are spending this week spotlighting our two most recent releases PUNK FUNK ROCK SOUL, Vol. 1 and PUNK FUNK ROCK SOUL, Vol. 2. We just read how we are that band that many think have fallen through the cracks, meaning that more people should know who we are. That may be true. Hearing that made me consider was how much of our story we have never told our fans. We made a concerted effort to stay close to home this summer to get closer to our core and our fans. One thing we wanted to make sure we do is talk about the releases. Working our way backward seemed the easiest to do because those songs are readily available for you to listen to on Spotify to follow along as we go. We will be talking at length about volume one and specifically the tracks MINE ALL MINE and SHAKE YOUR SNAKE this week. Please follow along and let us know what you think on your socials and here. And don’t forget to join the List if you have not done so yet.

OMG! PUNK FUNK ROCK SOUL - V1 is finished! Downloads for all previously purchased copies should hit 11/30.

Many apologies to each and every one of our fans that supported our attempts to release this over the summer. We have been working tirelessly on the recording, compiling and distribution of this project that has occupied so much of our creative space over the last half-decade. Mistakes were made and had to be corrected. Tours were cancelled and had to be rescheduled. It seemed to us that we would never find a way to finish everything we needed to and once you miss deadlines it’s easy to fall victim to that way of thinking. Well, we made it past that and have four (4) fabulous tunes to show for it, each genre specific to the title of the EP. Check out the track listing in our MUSIC section on this site.

We were fortunate enough to have two creatives working with us on the business end. Stefan Lit, a.k.a. Stef Litrownik our drummer on BLACK LIGHTNING, mixed both volumes and gave us a great sounding CD. As did Louise Sordoillet with the CD design for both V1 & V2. She is the killer guitarist for the New York Kleps that have opened for us several times. Many thanks to the both of them for sharing.

If you have not ordered a copy of the download I highly recommend you do. We have included track notes and lyrics and images (like the one below) of the physical CD. For those that would like to get the physical release, it will be available 12/15 at our shows and at fine record stores with impeccable taste. Look for V2 February 2018.

We have new music...it's coming soon.

Tracking "I Don't Wanna Cry." Killer tune and it's giving me a run for my money. This was the last shot before we sent it it off for mixing. This song and 3 others on our upcoming EP this spring. More music coming after that in the fall. Can't wait for you to hear it.

Happy birthday Craig!

We would like to send out birthday wishes to the BellRays drummer, Mr. Craig Waters! Having him in the studio and on the road has made last year and this some of the most exciting times I've had in a long time. Can't wait for everyone to hear the new music we are currently working on. Craig is on fire.
